Preventive Maitenance: Testing of UV/IR Flame Detectors Injection Compressor
INJECTION
COMPRESOR FLAME DETECTORS(UV/IR):
REFER TO CAUSE AND EFFECT DIAGRAMS AND SELECT THE CORRECT KEY SWITCH TO
BE PLACED IN THE BY-PASS
MODE ON THE CONTROL PANEL AREA MATRIX ON THE FIRE & GAS PANEL PRIOR
TO COMMENCING TEST
PLACE THE SELECTED SWITCH IN THE BY-PASS MODE ON THE CONTROL PANEL AREA
MATRIX ON THE FIRE & GAS
PANEL AND CONFIRM THE CORRECT BY-PASS LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED
ENSURE THE CORRECT AREA IS BY-PASSED PRIOR TO COMMENCING TEST
ENSURE AKUSTA PANEL IS TURNED TO MANUAL PRIOR TO COMMENCING TEST
NOTE: WRITE THE MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER OF THE EQUIPMENT ON THE WORK
ORDER.
NOTE:
Two Technicians required to perform this task
The technicians will be in radio contact at all times
One technician to be stationed at the Fire and Gas Detection Panel in
the Main Control Room.
TASK TO BE PERFORMED Testing of UV/IR Flame Detectors

1.CLEAN ALL INSTRUMENTS AS REQUIRED
2.RAISE A CORRECTIVE WORK ORDER TO REPAIR ANY FAULTS FOUND

Recommended cleaning solution is General Monitors,
Recommended Test Lamp General Monitors
1. Inspect UV/IR Detectors for any physical damage.
2. Ensure device is securely mounted.
3. Inspect electrical cable if visible for any physical damage.
4. Check cable gland and terminal box cover are secure.
5. Ensure tester is fully charged
6. Ensure all
Fire & Gas inhibits and isolations are in place prior to commencing test
7. Clean optical surfaces using a soft, lint free cotton swab together
with General monitors window solution.
8. Avoid leaving your fingerprints on optical surfaces.
9. Radio check and alert technician at control panel test is about to
start
10. Point fire simulator toward IR Detector FROM A DISTANCE OF 15
FEET/4.57 METERS
11. Press the button ensuring the high intensity pulsing beam strikes
the detector face squarely.
12. If the system being tested is operating normally the detector will
go into WARN condition after a few flashes.
13. Keep the lamp on for the period set by the time delay and the
detector will go into alarm.
14. Read the effect on the sensor output signal or through the fire and
gas detection system,
15. Confirm by radio to technician at control panel
16. On completion of test ensure all alarms are reset
17. Remove all Fire & Gas inhibits and isolations
18. A 30-second time lapse is required between tests.
19. Sign-off Work Permit and return to operations.
20. Report all
findings to supervision and document in CMMS.
